RELATIONSHIP WITH OTHER DOGS The pyrenean mastiff coexists well with other dogs. In the photo Bogart de Can Cabot with Lord, an eight years old Golden Retriever. In our cottage two small racially mixed dogs share space with mastiffs like one more of them. In addition, when some of the mastiffs enter in the house they find our cats that take a walk calmly around them. |
TAKEN CARE OF PYRENEAN MASTIFF
Feeding:
The best feeding for our pyrenean mastiff is the dry food. We recommend to use
a Premium quality. With this feeding our dog will not need any extra
contribution vitamins or mineral complexes, as good quality dry food has all
the necesary nutrients. It is specially important to take careof the feeding
during the growth of the dog, that in pyrenean mastiff extends until 18 months
old. We should think that the puppy that we take home will reach 70 or 80
kilos, reason why these fast growth requires mainly of a very balanced feeding
with attention to its bones and joints. In order to avoid the feared torsions
of stomach, we follow the following steps:
- To place the bowls to a sufficient height so that the dog does not have to
crouch to eat.
- To distribute the daily portion in two takings (in the morning and at night)
- Never let make exercise to our dogs after eating (not even the daily walks)
Health: If we follow the above advice for a correct feeding of our pyrenean mastiff, the visits to the veterinarian will be limited to the scheduled inspections. The vaccines must be repeated every year during all the life of the dog and in addition we will give him a deworming medication every six months.
Groomming:
Pyrenean mastiff does not need any special groomming. Normally two annual
baths will be enough. In order to conserve the hair in optimal conditions we
must brush it once at week, with an appropriate brush for lon hair dogs.
During the dumb time a good brush will facilitate the elimination of dead hair
and will favors the growth of the new one.
