Pyrenean Mastiff and childrens

Pyrenean Mastiff is a balanced breed, aware of its power y very affectionate. He likes children company, and he consider them as if the were their game partners. He is affectionate and patient and he will also accept their young masters' friends easily.

Living with other animals

Pyrenean Mastiff lives peacefully with other animals (dogs, cats, horses, sheeps, hens, etc) It's a very hierarchical breed, so when the puppy arrives to a new home he quickly understand what is his place in the pack.
At home our pyrenean mastiffs live together with other breeds and sizes dogs that we have adopted along this years. They also play and share their bowls with our cats

Feeding

The best feeding for our pyrenean mastiff is dry food. We recommend the use of a Premium quality dry food. With this feeding dogs will not need any vitamins or mineral complexes extra contribution as good quality dry food has all the necessary nutrients. It is specially important to take care of the feeding during the puppy growth age. Pyrenean Mastiffs growth age extends until 18 months old. It is well worthy to think that the puppy your are taking home will reach 70 or 80 kilograms. This is the reason why this fast growth requires a very balanced feeding to attend to your pyrenean mastiff puppy's bones and joints health.
We follow the following steps in order to avoid stomach torsions:
- Placing the bowls high enough so that the dog does not need to crouch to eat.
- Distributing the daily amount of dry food in two takes (in the morning and at night)
- We never let our dogs exercise immediately after eating (not even the daily walks)

Health

Following the above advice for a correct feeding of our Pyrenean Mastiff, visits to the veterinarian will be limited to the scheduled inspections. Vaccines must be repeated every year during all the life of the dog and in addition we will give them a deworming medication every four months.
Because of giants breed's propensity to develop dilated cardiomyopathie, we recommend from 5 years of life an annual echocardiogram, which is the best way to diagnose this disease. An early diagnosis allow us to take appropriate measures so that dogs have a longer life expectancy and improved quality of life in their old age.

Groomming

Pyrenean Mastiffs do not need any special groomming. Two yearly baths will usually be enough. We must brush  our dogs with an appropriate brush for long hair dogs once a week in order to preserve PMs hair in optimal conditions.  During dumb time a good brush will make elimination of dead hair easier and it will be suitable for the new hair growth.
Never clipping a pyrenean mastiff. The coat is a protection for cold as well as for heat, Bajo ningún concepto se debe pelar al Mastín del Pirineo, el pelo lo protege del frío, pero también del calor, avoiding the sun burn their skin.
