Two weeks prior to delivery we separate
the female
from the rest of mastiffs. Having her home we can better control the final
stage of pregnancy and avoid her to be injured by playing whith her
companions. Our mastiffs give birth inside the house and they are all the time together with their puppies. In case of large litters we support the lactation with puppy milk. Our puppies go with their new famillies at two month old. We never deliver puppies before this age because it is very important for the rest of their life the socialization received during that stage of development. The relationship with their mother and brothers, with us and the people who visit us, with our cats and our dogs is the beginning of the imprinting that takes place between 4 and 12 weeks old. |
